“When we first heard about the project “Data Analyst,” we were curious – what exactly does a data analyst do, and how can someone become one? And as expected, this project gave us the answers we were looking for,” shared Uy Long, an 8Pori TDSer, during the presentation of the 8 Math project, Data Analyst.
Project-based learning is a familiar approach for TDSers in Mathematics. After a period of dedicated study and research, the students brought probability and statistics to life in engaging ways by analyzing survey data on pressing issues such as school violence, the LGBT community, and students’ use of inappropriate language.
To produce these heartfelt project reports, the students dedicated significant time to designing questionnaires, collecting information through individual interviews with survey participants, analyzing the data, and presenting it through various types of charts. From there, they worked on identifying optimal solutions to the issues at hand. Extending beyond the boundaries of Mathematics, conducting surveys and interviews helped students develop confidence, observational thinking, and communication skills.
Nguyen Cong Bao Khanh from class 8Kemi shared: “Through the 8 Math project, we realized that Math isn’t just confined to textbooks—it’s also the speaking charts and the percentages that reflect human perspectives. Math is all around us, making the knowledge we learn incredibly important in daily life.”
Attending the project presentation in person, Nguyen Tuan Anh, a parent, shared: “The students have successfully applied the theoretical knowledge of probability and statistics to everyday topics that are very relatable. Through this project, they have gained new skills and experiences that we, as parents, never had at their age. Thank you to the teachers and the school for creating such a practical and enriching platform for the students.”
The 8 Math project was not just a lesson in data analysis but also a journey of discovering fresh perspectives and fostering humanistic values in life. It was a journey of experience – one that began with challenges such as differing opinions or struggles in designing survey forms but ended with the students coming together to produce meaningful and impactful results.
