The first week at The Dewey Schools is always a special and significant time for every TDSer. It not only offers students the chance to get acquainted with their new learning environment and make new friends, but also provides an opportunity to build a strong cultural foundation and foster a spirit of unity through a diverse and meaningful series of connection activities.
One of the highlights is the introduction to school culture and safety – two core elements that make the learning environment safer and more welcoming. Additionally, students receive guidance on school health services and health regulations to ensure everyone has a healthy and safe school year.
To ensure a vibrant and enriching school year, students also set their academic goals through the Student Planner activity. Establishing short-term personal goals helps them stay on track with their plans and find motivation throughout their learning journey.
A key highlight of the first week was the meeting and conversation with a psychology expert, which helped students learn how to protect their mental health and understand how the counseling office operates at TDS. Additionally, students in grades 6, 7, and 8 took a personality test to gain deeper self-awareness, allowing them to set appropriate academic and developmental goals. The University and Career Counseling Office also organized a career orientation and study abroad advisory session for students in grades 9-12, helping them better prepare for their future international academic journeys.
Beyond the classroom, the first week was also an opportunity for students to participate in various sports activities and team-building games. These activities provided an excellent opportunity for TDSers to build friendships and team spirit, contributing to a united and cohesive TDS community.
With a variety of meaningful activities, the first week at The Dewey Schools has set an exciting tone for the 2024-2025 school year. Stay tuned for the many exciting activities and events ahead in the new school year at TDS!
