Having once stood backstage in tears after not winning a title at a child beauty pageant, Dao Nguyen Hong Lam (Class 6Calgary, The Dewey Schools Duong Kinh, Hai Phong) has demonstrated determination to pursue the arts with her parents, saying, “I will continue to pursue the competition until I win the crown.”
Passionate about art programs since childhood, when watching a beauty pageant with her family, 4-year-old Hong Lam expressed to her parents, “I also want to participate in a competition like that.”
Embarking on the journey to pursue her passion at the age of 5, “Little Miss World Tourism” marked a significant turning point in her experience, growth in thought, and determination.
Despite not winning any titles in that competition, Hong Lam stood backstage, shedding tears as she watched others shine. After that day, with eyes filled with sadness, Lam told her mother, “I will never compete again.” However, the artistic passion of the 4-year-old seemed to have turned into a tremendous source of motivation, urging Hong Lam to rise from this very failure.
When her parents thought their little daughter was merely enthusiastic about a momentary glimpse into the world of artistic talent, a statement from Hong Lam determined them to accompany her to the fulfillment of this passion: “I will continue to pursue the competition until I win the crown.” Subsequently, Hong Lam spent months trusting in herself and dedicating herself to rigorous training, honing skills to excel in various competition segments such as the catwalk, presentation, interviews, photography, group activities, dancing, and singing. The learning environment at The Dewey Schools also facilitated Hong Lam’s participation in numerous artistic activities, nurturing creativity, passion, and her unique personality.
Success has finally smiled upon Hong Lam, the talented TDSer, who was crowned “Little Miss Eurasia 2018” in Georgia, USA, at the age of just 6, thanks to her relentless efforts. With her charming appearance, confident performance skills, intelligence, flexibility in behavior, and fluent English, the girl from Hai Phong won over both judges and a large audience. Hong Lam’s journey of overcoming personal limits and pursuing her passion has unfolded each year, yielding achievements, both big and small, from the national to the international stages.
Recently, Hong Lam was selected by the organizing committee to perform as the child model in the opening performance of The Essence of the Ancient Capital. Set to the backdrop of the song “Vietnamese Pride,” the 12-year-old from The Dewey Schools Duong Kinh showcased a 20-meter-long impressive Ao dai honoring the cultural heritage of Ninh Binh. Her performance contributed to spreading the beauty of Vietnamese culture to audiences at home and abroad.
To balance academics and artistic talent development, over the past 6 years, Hong Lam has remained steadfast, putting forth her best effort to acquire new knowledge while engaging in training schedules and competitions. She meticulously manages a scientific timetable, training regimen, and takes care of both her physical and mental well-being. Throughout this journey, she has consistently received support and companionship from her parents, teachers at The Dewey Schools, and the Talent Development Center.
The road ahead is still long, and fantastic opportunities are always welcoming Hong Lam with many exciting experiences. I wish the talented girl from The Dewey Schools continued strength, radiance, and a life lived to the fullest with her passion for the arts.
